The usual approach: cover it up
Looks right. Now peek underneath.
- The original text is still in the file, just hidden
- Search, copy and screen readers find the old value
- The patch shows as a pale box on some printers
True in-place PDF text editing
SwiftPDFEdit is a browser-based PDF editor and a 21-tool workshop. It rewrites the page's content stream, so the original words are genuinely replaced — no white boxes, no retyping the page. And your file is never uploaded to be processed: the work happens on your device.

The difference
This is the whole reason SwiftPDFEdit exists. Compare what actually ends up inside the file.

Select it in any PDF reader and you get $3,150.00. The old value is gone.

Why SwiftPDFEdit
Most online PDF services are an upload form in front of somebody else's server. This one ships the whole engine to your browser instead.
Editing, merging, converting and signing all run inside your browser tab. Your document is never uploaded to be processed — open the network panel and watch. Saving a finished file to your account is the one deliberate exception, and it only happens when you click Done.
See the security modelThere is no progress bar because there is nothing to send. A task takes exactly as long as your own device needs to do the work.
Type, draw, highlight, redact, add shapes, images and signatures on a proper canvas — plus true in-place text editing on Pro.
Every change is reversible right up to export, and your source file on disk is never modified. Experiment freely.
Once the page has loaded, the processing needs no connection at all. Aeroplane Wi-Fi is not a blocker.
Every screen is responsive and touch-friendly, keyboard operable, and holds WCAG AA contrast in both light and dark themes. Dark mode is a designed palette, not an inverted one.
The toolkit
Everything you reach for in a normal week with PDFs — each one focused, fast, and running on your own machine.
Showing 21 of 21 tools.
Combine two or more PDF files into a single document in seconds. Merging runs entirely inside your browser, so your files are never uploaded to a server.
Open toolSplit one PDF into several documents using page ranges like 1-3, 4-9, 10. Everything runs in your browser — no uploads, no watermarks, no page cap.
Open toolPull chosen pages out of a PDF into one new document, in any order you like. Lossless, watermark-free, and processed entirely on your own device.
Open toolRemove blank, duplicate or unwanted pages from any PDF in seconds. Type the page numbers, download the trimmed file — nothing is ever uploaded.
Open toolRearrange PDF pages on a visual thumbnail grid and rebuild the file losslessly. Runs in your browser — your document is never uploaded anywhere.
Open toolRotate PDF pages 90°, 180° or 270° — every page or only the ones you choose. The fix is saved into the file, so it sticks in every PDF reader.
Open toolReduce PDF file size in your browser with lossless optimization or strong image compression. See the exact before and after size before you download.
Open toolTurn JPG photos and scans into one clean PDF, one image per page. Choose A4 pages or exact image sizing — and nothing is re-compressed or uploaded.
Open toolConvert PNG screenshots, diagrams and graphics into one PDF with transparency handled correctly. Lossless, watermark-free, and processed on your device.
Open toolExport PDF pages as JPG images at 72, 144 or 216 DPI with adjustable quality. Rendered by a professional PDF engine locally — no uploads, no watermarks.
Open toolRender PDF pages as lossless PNG images at up to 216 DPI — ideal for text-heavy pages, diagrams and documentation. Processed entirely in your browser.
Open toolA full visual PDF editor in your browser: change real text, add notes, shapes, images, whiteout and signatures, then export. Your file is never uploaded.
Open toolChange the words already inside a PDF. SwiftPDFEdit rewrites the content stream, so text is truly replaced — not hidden under a white box — in your browser.
Open toolSearch a PDF and replace every occurrence of a word or phrase across the whole document — a real content-stream rewrite, done in your browser.
Open toolTrue redaction that deletes the characters from the file instead of drawing a black box over them. Runs in your browser, so nothing sensitive is uploaded.
Open toolType into any PDF form — including flat scans with no fillable fields — then add check marks, dates and a signature and export a finished, flattened file.
Open toolDraw your signature and place it anywhere on a PDF, then export a signed file. Everything happens in your browser — the contract is never uploaded.
Open toolStamp DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL or any custom text across a PDF, with control over size, colour, angle, opacity and tiling. Applied in your browser, not on a server.
Open toolNumber a PDF in any corner or centred, with formats like “Page 3 of 12” and a custom starting number. Drawn into the file, in your browser, in seconds.
Open toolRemove a known password or permission restrictions from a PDF you own. Decryption runs locally with qpdf-WASM — the file and password never leave your device.
Open toolTurn a scanned PDF into searchable, selectable text. Recognition runs on your own device with Tesseract-WASM, so the document is never uploaded anywhere.
Open toolHow it works
No upload progress bar, no conversion queue, no email with a download link.
Drag a PDF — or a pile of images — onto any tool. It opens instantly, because there is no upload step to wait through.
Merge, split, compress, convert or watermark. Or open the editor to replace the text that's already there, sign, redact and annotate.
Export straight to your device, or hit Done to file the finished PDF in My Documents. Either way the original on your disk is untouched.
Security
Conventional PDF sites ask you to trust their storage policy, their deletion timer and their staff. We remove the question: the processing happens where the file already is.
In practice
Illustrative accounts of the workflows SwiftPDFEdit was built for.
I run every client contract through SwiftPDFEdit before sending. The fact that nothing leaves my laptop is the entire reason I switched — the fact that it's also the nicest PDF UI I've used is a bonus.
Priya Raman
Independent legal consultant
We banned uploading candidate documents to random converter sites. SwiftPDFEdit gave the whole team the same tools with none of the compliance headache.

The editor is shockingly good for something that runs in a tab. I sign, date and return lease documents in about ninety seconds now.

Your documents are never uploaded in order to be processed. Every tool and the editor run on client-side PDF engines inside your browser tab, so merging, converting, signing and editing happen on your own device — you can watch the network panel while you work. The one deliberate exception is saving: when you press Done in the editor, the finished PDF is stored in your account so you can find it again. That is a choice you make, not something that happens in the background.
Most browser PDF editors paint a white rectangle over the words you want to change and draw new text on top. The original text is still in the file, so search, copy and screen readers keep finding the old value. SwiftPDFEdit rewrites the page's content stream instead: the original glyphs are genuinely replaced, so selecting the text in any PDF reader returns your edit and nothing is layered over anything. True in-place text editing is part of the Pro plan; the overlay editor, signatures and the core tools are on every plan.
Yes — there is a free plan and it isn't watermarked. It includes the core PDF tools, the editor and signatures, up to 5 saved documents and 3 tasks per day. Pro ($10/month or $49/year) lifts the daily and document caps and adds true text editing and OCR. Premium ($15/month or $79/year) adds password removal, the AI assistant, batch processing and team features. Annual billing saves up to 59%.
Yes, a free account is required to use the tools and the editor — it's what lets us save your finished documents to My Documents and apply plan limits fairly. You can sign up with Google or an email address in a few seconds, and creating an account doesn't change where your files are processed: still on your device.
PDF for every document tool, plus JPG and PNG for image conversion in both directions. Password-protected PDFs need to be unlocked before they can be edited, which the Unlock PDF tool does on the Premium plan.
There is no server-imposed limit, because there is no server doing the work. Capacity is bounded by your own device's memory, and typical documents of a few hundred pages are comfortable on any modern computer or phone.
Yes. Every tool and the editor are responsive and touch-friendly, and both light and dark themes are designed rather than auto-generated. Drawing a signature with a fingertip is usually easier than with a mouse.
Client-side processing means a contract or medical record is handled with the same privacy as a desktop application: it is read, edited and re-assembled in your browser. Read the Security page for the full model, and check it against your own compliance requirements before using it for regulated data.
Create a free account, open the editor or pick a tool, and get on with your day. Nothing to install, nothing to upload.
